Welcome -bienvenue to Chateau Vary.

Paul and Benedicte would like to welcome you to Chateau Vary in the heart of the Loire Valley. Chateau Vary first took guests in 1986 in the chateau and cottages. In 1999 the stables were refurbished and 2019 will see the complete refurbishment of the chateau.  Vary is set in its own grounds of 50 acres, which is a mixture of garden, lawns, forest and farmland. It provides a unique setting for a stay in the Loire Valley. It has an outdoor pool and a heated indoor pool, access for forest walks, local shops and larger towns nearby, wine tasting route, and bicycle hire in close proximity.

Chateau Vary has been in the Sauve family for 5 generations and in 2019 Benedicte becomes the latest family member to take over Chateau Vary.

The original Manor House dates from 1840 at which point the wings were added and the elevated terraces to give the charm and grandeur of a small chateau.

120 years ago the horse and carriage would pass under the main steps for passengers to alight, before the horses were taken down to the stables. Electricity was provided from a large store of batteries, the house heated by wood fires, with the wood stored under the large terrace which has since been enclosed to create a reception room.

Accommodation is a high standard with the rooms in the Chateau refurbished in 2020. Each bedroom has been renovated to provide a modern bedroom with bathroom while retaining the Chateau decoration and style. With a large entrance hall, grand salon, dining bar area and al fresco dining on the terrace a superb location for a stay has been perfected.

The cottages each sleep six with the main adult room having a super-king size bed and the same quality pillows and linen as found in the Chateau. The cottages come fully equipped with all appliances, wi-fi, digital TV, patio, and b-b-q.

Outdoor Pool
Indoor Pool

Facilities shared by all guests include a heated covered pool and a larger outdoor pool. In the hotter months the outdoor pool provides a refreshing alternative to indoor bathing. There are large areas around the pools for sunbathing. For the sporting guests there is a boules court, outdoor table tennis table, badminton and volleyball court. For the younger ones there is a children’s playground.

The forest has a network of pathways to enjoy the peace and tranquility of the woodland and wildlife. A family of owls nest close by, deer roam in the early morning, and the sound of birdlife from the cuckoo to the woodpecker provide a constant backdrop.

Cottages Ecurie, Sellerie, Chevalerie (right to left)

In 2020 the chateau will have 4 letting rooms all en suite to provide a high standard of accommodation. This will further enhance the location as a venue to be enjoyed by individual guests, groups, families and wedding parties. Facilities such as the terrace and reception rooms can be enjoyed by everyone staying at Chateau Vary.

Chateau Vary offers B&B and evening meals in the main Chateau, and self-catering in the cottages. There is a terrace in the Chateau where food and drink is served. All food and wine is locally sourced where possible using fresh produce, aiming to provide an experience of the seasonal delights that the gastronomic region of the Loire Valley (the basket of France) has to offer.

Two wonderful indoor (heated) and outdoor pools ensure everyone staying has activity even in the slightly cooler months. During the long hot summer the outdoor pool is the firm favourite, but in the spring and late autumn the indoor pool comes into its own.

It is in the heart of the Loire Valley just 5 minutes from Junction 12 of the A11. The closest large towns are Angers 20 minutes and Le Mans 40 minutes. To the south is Saumur which is 20 minutes from Chateau Vary.

Also close by is La Flèche where the popular zoo is an attraction, and an hour down the A11 is the world renowned Puy de Fou. Chateau Vary is a popular location for visiting both the Zoo at La Flèche and the Puy de Fou. The main Chateau of Angers, Saumur, Azay Le Rideau, and Villandry as well as numerous smaller chateaux are all within an hour’s distance.

At the end of 2019 the guests had rated their stay with booking.com at 9.5. With a programme of renovation underway and the determination of Paul and Benedicte to provide a truly outstanding experience we look forward to welcoming you in 2020.
